ABOUT MISS TAMICA GRAHAM

About ME

My name is Tamica Graham. My journey as an educator began in Jamaica where I completed a 3year teacher education program alongside a Bachelor’s of Education degree with a major in Clothing and Housing.  I have over 9years of teaching experience in teaching grades 7-12 Home Economics commonly referred to as Family Studies and Social Science in Ontario. I recently completed year one in the Master of Teaching program (MT) with a focus in Primary/Junior division at OISE. At the end of my first year I decided to make the switch between programs in the CTL department hence M.Ed.

I am grounded by a few pedagogies for instruction in the classroom for example, Differentiated Instruction and the Multiple Intelligence Theory, Regio Emilo Approach to name a few. These approaches have helped me to explore some of the critical gaps between the theory and practice of education. My teaching philosophy is guided by principles surrounding inquiry based learning that seeks to develop critical thinking skills in students.

Outside of school, I like to hang with friends and family, cook, and listen to music. I am learning to roller skate and I love it!

Thank you.

My Philosophy

At The Coperative Learning Centre, I view cooperative learning as integral in students' education. Just like any other skill, learning to work in partners or as a group takes time and energy to perfect. Students who can work well with others often have a better self-esteem, an easier school and work experience, and find activities more fun. Content mastery also jumps with cooperative learning.

I incorporate cooperative learning into each curriculum level based on our refined stepped partnership model. Although the levels build on one another, they also fit with students' developmental readiness; learning good partnership techniques can begin at any age.
